The number of reported fixtures is at its highest level since mid-2022, driven by strong demand for 1,700 teu capacity units. Nevertheless, charter periods remain relatively short.

CONTAINERSHIP charter rates have been relatively stable of late with brokers reporting an upturn in fixture activity amidst strong demand for feeder ships in the Pacific and Atlantic basins.

"The highest number of reported fixtures for several months were recorded during the previous week. With several pending requirements to be covered, consequently charter rates remain stable," said Braemar.

Chartering activity has been dominated by fixtures for feeder ships and panamax vessels while no activity has been reported in the sub-panamax, 3,000 teu - 3,999 teu, segment.

"What a week for the feeder segment with a healthy appetite for 1,700 teu vessels with multiple units being extended or fixed for new employment," noted Braemar.
